LOCATION
View from the third-floor terrace at dawn
The location of Casa Anna is simply extraordinary. This beautiful rental home is situated in the center of the historic district, on Calle Hidalgo. We're just around the corner from the library, a block away from Harry's, an ex‐pat haunt; two blocks to the jardin and a short walk (in the opposite direction) to the gorgeous design center, Fábrica Aurora.
And believe it or not, the streets are indeed flat in this part of San Miguel. You can walk to literally dozens of shops, antique stores, restaurants, museums and bars, and never encounter more than bump in the road. Hidalgo itself is lined with all manner of shopping and eating spots; you could spend a day just strolling from the house to the jardin, taking in the fantastic finds in its boutiques and stores. Another favorite restaurant of ours, Casablanca, is on Hidalgo, and one of the prettiest rooftop restaurants is Socialitte, just a couple of blocks away. There's also The Venus Lounge (for great Thai), just around the corner. So be sure to stop for a libation if the shopping and the sightseeing take their toll! In fact, just on Hidalgo are several more very popular dining spots: the famous Harry's New Orleans bar, a favorite of ex-pats; the very boutique and hip Hacienda Guadalupe, a favorite of wealthy Mexicans; Media Naranja, a great breakfast spot; and several local Mexican buffets for authentic, delicious native cuisine.
